Chart Project / Letter Recognition


Climb Aboard the Spaceship!

Standards: 

  • 0.1.1.5.1 "1. Identify the elements of visual art including color, line, shape, texture and space."
  • 0.8.2.2 "2. Integrate and evaluate information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally."


Materials:
  • both charts
  • YouTube video(optional) YouTube Link to accompany song
  • worksheet to practice sorting skills 
  • planets/spaceship/astronaut/moon/star cutouts 
  • scissors 
  • glue
Purpose of chart: Students will learn the Climb Aboard the Spaceship song and will sing it as a class(Chart 1). YouTube video accompanies the activity. Students will then sort outer space related cutouts on a large tag board(Chart 2). Students will also try and write space related words as well as they can(effort is key). By sounding out the words with letter recognition students will be better equipped to sorting the pictures.

Following this lesson, students will be able to: 


  • actively engage with the song "Climb Aboard the Spaceship" to the tune of the itsy bitsy spider. 

  • Sort different outer space features into different groups.
